The leg bones which are the tibia and fibula are prone to different kinds of fracture because they are commonly used. Because of the thin layer of tissue protecting the muscles, the occurrence of different fractures arise at the shortest stretching of the bones. • Pain in the fractured area
• Swelling around the lower limbs
• Difficulty in walking
• Slight fever
• Loose muscle functions

Because the tibia and fibula are connected to a large series of muscles and tissues, pain can be felt for longer durations. Painkillers are recommended to numb the area. Antibiotics are also given in cases where an open fractured tibia and fibula has shown signs of infection. In case infection happens, separate treatment may occur. In serious cases of open tibia and fibula fractures, there is the need to amputate the entire leg so that the remaining parts of the body will remain functional. Constant intakes of calcium supplements also help strengthen the bones.

Prevention of Tibia And Fibula Bone Injury

To prevent the tibia and fibula bone injuries in the lower legs, everyone must take care of their muscles. Athletes often experience muscle pains that alert them when muscles already need to rest. Sometimes muscles are coupled together and will show stress signs as a manifestation that they have been overworking. If the muscles and bones are given enough rest, they will have no problem with carrying the normal load and they will function properly. The problem begins when over fatigue causes the muscles and bones to be strained. Over time, bones that are subjected to too much stress will show signs of deterioration and eventually breakage.

When to Call a Doctor

The doctor’s help is needed when there is severe pain involved in the lower limbs. Most of the times torn muscles are a precursor to bone fractures. It is easy to take action once the fracture is new but taking time to let the damage affect the body will need aggressive forms of treatment. In severe cases, amputation will have to be done.
